Sampha, full name Sampha Sisay, has actually been around for a while now. His career started back in 2010 with the release of his first EP and the followup EP that came in 2013. In between his own projects, Sampha worked heavily with SBTRKT’s and has since been involved in many other projects, such as turning up on tracks with Drake’s “Too Much,” Frank Ocean’s “Alabama”, and many others. Even so, Process will serve as an introduction of the talented musician to the world.

I find it a little difficult to classify Sampha’s music. The best way I can describe it is that it gives me a modern r&b/soul/electronic vibe. Though they have different sounds, I would put him in the same category as fellow newer artist Raury, Daniel Caesar, and even more well-known artist like James Blake. Process provides a genre blending sound so common among today’s artist, but completed beautifully.

It’s not a life changing album like Kendrick Lamar’s Go0d Kid, M.A.A.D. City, but it is more than enough to let us know that Sampha has the potential to be a huge artist outside of the behind the scenes and supporting roles he’s been mainly playing. We’ve seen other artist step out into the light and find success. Only time will tell if Sampha will find that same shine, but this is definitely a great start.
